What qualifications are we looking for?

Qualifications include:

Previous experience in leading banquet and large volume kitchens or line cooking

Experience leading a team

Strong communication skills

A positive attitude and positive teamwork experience

A love for the outdoors and living in the Rocky Mountains

Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John’s Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol

Food Safe Certification (or willing to obtain)

Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or Canadian equivalent) and no more than 3 demerits

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Reporting to the Executive Chef (manager), the Assistant Chef are responsible for:

Ensuring consistent high quality of meals and food service systems

Strong communication and working relationships with program, asset and admin staff at CCH

Planning meals that are appealing to participants and minimize waste

Ordering food and supplies

Liaison with parents and group leaders around dietary restrictions

Supervision, coaching and supporting 2-15 staff, depending on the season and operational volume
